GENERAL INFORMATION

Registrable subject matters

• Drawings or designs; 
• Three-dimensional form of a product

Applicant

• Creator or his assignee; assignee may be individual(s) or a corporation.

Aplication and Filing

• It is possible to claim Convention Priority from earlier application for the same design filed in any Contracting State of Paris Convention if the Lao application shall be filed within 6 month from the filing date of the earlier foreign application.

Examination

• It takes about six (06) months from the filing date for examination and granting design registration certificate.

Publication

• Only granted design shall be published. It is possible to request for deferment of the publication of the granted design in a period of 12 months from the date of filing or priority date claimed in the application

Protection term and Renewal

• The term of protection of a granted industrial design is 5 years from filing date and renewable for two further consecutive periods of five years, subject to payment of renewal fees. Grace period for belated renewal is 6 months from the expiration date of the preceding period, subject to fining fees.
